About the Instructor – lakshmibasile.com
Lakshmi “La Chimi” Basile, a native of San Diego, grew up in the San Diego flamenco scene, where she performed regularly as a flamenco dancer in California and studied classical dance at the University of California at Santa Barbara. She followed her heart and moved to Spain at the age of 20 where she furthered her flamenco studies, being fortunate enough to work along side great artists such as Manuel Molina, Remedios Amaya, Joselito Mendez, Antonio Moya, La Hermenia, Carmen Ledesma, Antonio Rey and La Tona. In 2011 “La Chimi” made history, being the first non-Spanish artist to win an award in the central flamenco contest, Concurso de las Minas de La Unión. La Chimi is highly sought after, both as a dancer and teacher. She would not have it any other way, for sharing her passion through performing or teaching, is the authentic life of a true flamenco dancer.
